Who is J.D. Power?

J.D. Power is a global leader in consumer insights, data, analytics, and advisory services that helps clients drive growth and profitability. The J.D. Power 2023 Auto Insurance study considers five factors (listed alphabetically) as it relates to customers' satisfaction with their auto insurance provider:

• Claims
• Interaction
• Policy Offerings
• Price

How does the study work?

Fielded from January through April 2023, the study is based on responses from 41,437 auto insurance customers to provide benchmarks in 11 key regions, including New York! The J.D. Power study uses an enhanced sample structure and regional methodologies to accurately measure insured needs across different markets and geographic locations. This study examines how each aspect of the customer-insurer relationship impacts perceptions of the auto insurance company and identifies critical service standards that can lead to higher levels of satisfaction.

Key findings from the study

The 2023 study revealed that overall customer satisfaction among auto insurers in the U.S. is scoring 822 on a 1,000-point scale. The study also indicated that, with prices increasing across the industry, satisfaction levels are higher when insureds are informed about rate changes in advance.
